Vermont Electric Cooperative (VEC) is a member owned electric distribution utility serving the northern section of Vermont. Starting in 2005, we launched an ambitious project to place Smart Meters in our member's homes. We've made this video to help communicate some of the benefits we've found in the move to Smart Grid technology.
In 2005 we started our deployment of Smart Meters. By 2009 we were in the top 1% of all utilities in terms of deployment nationally.
Our popular wattWATCHERS program provides hourly consumption graphs on our website. This helps our consumers identify efficiency opportunities. View a demo here.
Over the past five years, our move to Smart Grid technologies has
helped us to reduce interruptions of our service by 50%.
